You’ll experience unique local life, savour traditional Cretan flavours and delve into the island’s storied past. Prepare to immerse yourself in an unforgettable exploration of Crete’s diverse landscapes and traditions!
On this safari tour, you will see the following sights, attractions and viewpoints:
The journey begins in the charming village of Krousonas, nestled among the rolling hills and olive groves of Crete. We will travel along scenic roads with breathtaking views of the Cretan countryside. On arrival in Krousonas you will have time for a morning coffee. Here you will also have the opportunity to taste some of the finest local produce, including the island’s famous olive oil and the strong traditional spirit, raki. Take time to relax in a local cafe, take in the stunning views and soak up the tranquil atmosphere of this delightful village and… let’s go!
We continue our journey towards the Livadi plateau, an area renowned for its extensive orchards. The drive to Livadi is dotted with charming rural scenes, including the sight of goats grazing freely in the fields. As the road climbs, the landscape transforms into a lush expanse of apple trees, a striking contrast to the rugged terrain. At Livadi you will have the opportunity to meet local farmers. The plateau is a peaceful place, perfect for taking in the serene beauty of the surroundings and understanding the agricultural lifestyle of Crete.
From Livadi we make our way to the Nida plateau, the highest point of our journey and offering incomparable views. As we continue to move up, the towering peak of Mount Psiloritis comes into view. This area is steeped in history, particularly the stories of resistance during the various conflicts that have shaped Crete’s past. We will visit a unique traditional shepherd’s hut, known as a “mitato”, where cheese has been made for centuries.
Our adventure then takes us to the cave of Ideon Andron, a site of immense mythological significance. According to legend, this cave was the refuge of Zeus, the King of the Gods, during his infancy, protecting him from the wrath of his father, Cronus. The cave itself is an awe-inspiring natural formation, with stalactites and stalagmites creating a mysterious and enchanting atmosphere. This visit is a highlight, offering both a link to Greek mythology and a striking example of Crete’s natural wonders.
The next stop will be the village of Anogia, a place that is well known for its rich cultural heritage. We take a leisurely stroll around the village. Anogia is also known for its music and folklore, so don’t be surprised if you come across an impromptu performance or two. The village itself is a charming place with beautiful gardens and a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing end to our journey.
In the middle of the day we will enjoy a delicious meal of local delicacies accompanied by Cretan wine. This is an excellent opportunity to experience the island’s culinary traditions first hand!

It depends on the location of your hotel or villa. In some cases a tour bus or a Land Rover jeep will literally stop at the front door of the hotel and you just have to be there, in others it may be a short walk to the nearest pick-up point. This is usually a large central street, bus stop, square, car park, etc. – somewhere where there is no risk of the tour bus or car getting stuck on a narrow one-way street or stuck in traffic.
You will receive full details of the time and place of the pick-up with your travel documents when you make your booking. Please read it carefully before the trip.
Two models, actually. The main vehicle for the jeep safari is the Land Rover Defender 110. As a second option we also have a Mercedes 4×4 minivan – it’s a Mercedes Vito with a panoramic roof. Both vehicles have 9 seats. If you have young children with you, it may be more comfortable to choose the Mercedes Vito 4×4 instead of the Land Rover.
