Bus services in Agia Pelagia in 2026: where to find a bus stop
First of all, there is no central bus station in Agia Pelagia. Nothing like that. There are only a few bus stops in the village.
Let’s say the village of Agia Pelagia has a conventional central road with many turns and branches. It is not a very wide road (you can see that for yourself), so bus stops are usually located near large hotels and on the widest parts of the road.
The main bus stops in Agia Pelagia are located near the Out of the Blue Resort (Crete.life Tourist Office) and Alexander House Hotel, Blue Bay Resort and Sea Side Resort, Irida Hotel, Pela Mare Hotel, Panorama Hotel, Pelagia Bay Hotel, Peninsula Resort and Chrissy’s Paradise Hotel. In high season, the itinerary may include a stop at the Castello Infinity Suites. There aren’t many buses anyway, so you can even memorise the schedule.
What do bus stops in Agia Pelagia look like?
Generally speaking, it’s very location-specific. For example, this is what the bus stop near Alexander House Hotel and Out of the Blue Resort (Crete.life tourist office) looks like:

You can find it on Google Maps – it is located right in the middle between Alexander House Hotel and our tourist office in front of the Out of the Blue Resort:

This is the KTEL public bus stop near the Panorama Hotel and the Irida Hotel. It’s located almost in the middle of the village (check it on Google Maps):

As you can see, there is no awning, no shade – nothing. There is just a sign with a bus timetable on paper. The bus stop near the hotel Chrissy’s Paradise looks almost the same: again in the middle of nowhere and without any kind of awning at all (check it on Google Maps):

And the same looking bus stop can be found near the Pelagia Bay Hotel – just a sign with a bus schedule on it (check it on Google Maps):

At this point, we realize that only one bus stop in Agia Pelagia has a shelter so you can wait for the public bus in the shade….. and it’s not the one near the Blue Bay Resort (check it on Google Maps):

And this is what the bus stop on the motorway from Agia Pelagia to Heraklion looks like. So… it depends.

If you’re planning to take the bus from Agia Pelagia to Heraklion, there are a few things you should know. You can catch the bus at any of the stops in the village or at the last stop on the motorway. The last bus stop is located in the middle of the highway, which makes it quite dangerous due to the lack of a sidewalk. Many travelers find this to be the most stressful spot to wait for a bus.
While you do get a partial nice view, the location itself is far from ideal. It’s still a three kilometers walk from the village of Agia Pelagia, which can be pleasant only if you… don’t have luggage and don’t mind the occasional pit stop in the bushes. The way from the village to the motorway is difficult, because you have to walk uphill.

This is the last stop to leave from Agia Pelagia to Heraklion by regular bus. Unfortunately, experiences at this bus stop have been less than stellar. It’s good to be behind a crash barrier, but it’s still a bit scary, isn’t it? Not a word about comfort. Some travelers report waiting for over two hours at various times and dates without a single bus stopping. Even standing in front of the metal bars didn’t help, as bus drivers seemed to ignore waiting passengers.
If you are planning to travel to Heraklion or western cities such as Rethymno or Chania, and especially if you are travelling to the seaport or airport, it is best to book a private transfer in advance.

Finally, please note that regular buses may be delayed or cancelled.
Please always check the bus schedule in advance
In addition, if you have the choice between taking an early bus or the next (last) bus, we advise you to take the earlier one – you have a much better chance of getting there and not being late!
If you want to be sure of your departure time and, more importantly, your arrival time, it may be worth booking a private transfer service. It will be more expensive, but there will be no surprises (unless there are some good ones)!
